Our work is never over….
Getting back into gear, holidays are behind me, Feeling fully recovered from my dain bramage.
I started moving the combat over and got the idea that i should really put in the inventory system first (so monsters can return to it when they run out of HP)
So the Inventory GUI is 90% done and i went to go add the necessary changes to the server… and a helpful IRC conversation with ‘theTroll’ kept nagging at me from the back of my mind.
As the server exists now, it can support a couple hundred players, as the number of players increases i would have to up the amount of servers to handle them… theTroll gave me the hints I needed to push the server to handle thousands of players. The catch? huge amounts of rewrite on the server.
I thought, hey, no biggie, i’ll get into beta and then work on that. But i cant seem to force myself to write in this inventory code only to overwrite it later.
So I’ve started that bit of madness this morning. Onward: DB fix -> Inventory -> Combat
Tonight i have generated all the data for Monster Planet
(the planet it self still needs a name) i should be able to walk around on that landscape some time tomorrow
Lots more to do, loading and following is done. You can have up to 3 monsters follow you around. Ive chopped out a lot of the unnecessary Neverdaunt stuff, and now there is alot to add.
My incredible friends and family got together to get me an Eee PC 901 for my birthday It is in all ways spectacular.
Anyhow, so here’s the deal, I am writing a new game from the base of Neverdaunt. Because i can release it quicker then if i were to just continue putting in all the features of Neverdaunt.
Working title is “World of Waffle Craft”
basically I’m making Spore meets Pokemon meets Final Fantasy tactics meets MMO.
Yep, I’ve lost my mind.
Everything i make for this other game is still usable for Neverdaunt, and this way i can actually have the time to make Neverdaunt everything i want it to be. Also, until i get a site up for the new game, I’m still going to blog about it here.
Crazy things are happening. Don’t Panic, Neverdaunt development is taking a 3 Month pause.
why? hmm… maybe cube monkey knows?
Perhaps he will tell you soon.
Good things are in progress though, and while I hate to put this game off a little, I promise it will be worth it.
